Two sides enduring battle at opposite ends of the La Liga standings, a high-flying Real Sociedad will welcome relegation scrappers Leganes to the Reale Arena on Friday night.

Starting with the hosts, picking up a 2-1 win away at fellow high-flyers Granada last weekend, Real Sociedad have cemented their spot as the La Liga surprise package so far this season. Handed the chance to leapfrog both Real Madrid and Barcelona to top spot, Imanol Alguacil’s men have now won three of their last four domestic matchups and the mood around the Reale Arena continues to be at the highest it has been in recent memory. There is no doubt that Friday’s hosts will also be boosted by their eye-catching record against Leganes. Landing a 3-0 win when the two sides met back in February, Sociedad have never lost a matchup against the relegation scrappers on home soil.

As for the visitors, while the mood around the Reale Arena might be at a continued high, the same can not be said for a struggling Leganes. Suffering a 2-1 loss at home against Eibar last time out, Javier Aguirre’s men have now lost five of their last six La Liga appearances and are already sat four points adrift at the foot of the table. Unsuprinsgly tipped as the leading contender to be hit with a Segunda return this season, a huge part of Leganes’ continued issues have come down to their struggles at the back. Shipping seven goals in their last two outings, no side in Spain’s top-tier have shipped more than their 21 strikes this year.
