Real Madrid have agreed a deal to sign Exequiel Palacios from River Plate, and they had hoped to make the deal official after the Copa Libertadores final. However, the final saw the Argentine club beat fierce rivals Boca Juniors over two legs, and consequently qualify for the Club World Cup. The development has now forced Real to postpone their confirmation of the Palacios signing until the tournament is over.
That’s according to Marca, who claim the Champions League holders’ interest in the 20-year-old midfielder has been a long-standing one. In fact, it is a part of their strategy to ‘monopolize the market for outstanding young talents’, players with ability to develop into world-class stars that would cost over €100million, before they reach that stage of their careers.
As for Palacios, the only question that remains unanswered is when he would join up with his new club. Real would like it to happen in January, but River Plate will try and postpone it for as long as they can.
