Real Madrid’s humiliation at the hands of Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday seems to have made a greater impact than initially perceived. Yes, losing 0-4 at home to their greatest rivals is painful, but given everything Los Blancos have achieved over the years under the leadership of Carlo Ancelotti, it would obviously be unwise to react by sacking the Italian tactician.
However, according to Sport, Real president Florentino Perez is very angry, and he has given orders for the project of bringing Xabi Alonso to replace Ancelotti at the end of the season to start. Perez is unhappy that the arrival of Mbappe hasn’t brought desired results, believing that the former PSG star and Vinicius Junior haven’t “clicked” very well, and that Arda Guler hasn’t been getting much game-time.
Alonso had offers to leave Bayer Leverkusen at the end of last season, namely from Bayern Munich and Liverpool, and he rejected both in order to follow through on the Bundesliga title with a Champions League campaign at his current club. He even signed a new contract, but there is a release clause there which enables him to leave next June, and Real do not want to miss that opportunity.
