Real Madrid plan an extensive overhaul of the squad this summer, though maybe not as extensive as may have been expected given the recent streak of failures.
According to Marca, the Champions League holders intend to bring in five more players – a left-back, another central defender along with Porto’s Eder Militao whose transfer to Santiago Bernabeu is all but done, two midfielders and a striker.
There would, of course, be players who would be shown to the exit door. Marco Asensio, who is still seen as a young player whose form is still recoverable, might be one of them with the interest from Juventuts growing stronger. Toni Kroos, Raphael Varane and Alvaro Odriozola are apparently in the same boat as Asensio, while the situation is different when it comes to Gareth Bale and Isco Alarcon. The futures of the latter two with the club are in grave doubt.
Meanwhile, various reports claim the reign of coach Santiago Solari is about to end, with Zinedine Zidane and Jose Mourinho both touted for a Bernabeu return. Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp has also been reported as a target.
