England boss Fabio Capello named Manchester United trio Phil Jones, Tom Cleverley and Chris Smalling in his squad to face Bulgaria and Wales.
The Italian included the youngsters in his squad for the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers, and claimed that playing for a side like United is the perfect preparation for England games.
He told the FA website: “I’m really happy with Sir Alex’s decision to put six young English players in his squad; they are winning and this is really important to improve – they are playing really, really well.”
“Some of them are really interesting; Smalling played 10 or 15 games for United last season but is now playing with more confidence in a new position. Jones is interesting too.”
“They are playing for a really important team who needs to win every game and teams they play against want to beat Manchester United every game. The pressure when you play for a big team is bigger than playing for a smaller team.”
The England coach is hoping for good results when his side plays in Sofia and then hosts Wales, having beaten their neighbours 2-0 in Cardiff earlier in the qualifying.
“Against Bulgaria I hope we will play a good game and win so we go to Montenegro in the last game with more points than them,” he said. “This will be a very important game.”
“I hope in the derby with Wales we find the same effect we had in Cardiff, and I want to see a respect between the two teams.”
“You always want to score quickly (like the 2-0 victory in Wales), the opposition then comes forward and you can find the space to play counter attack.”
Capello also found kind words for Arsenal forward Theo Walcott, who was in scoring form against Udinese last week and hinted he will try and use the pacy winger to full capability.
“It’s important for him and for us because for a forward it’s important to score goals, for confidence,” Capello added.
“He played a good game (against Udinese) and when you play counter attack it’s difficult to stop him.”
“His goal (in the away leg) was the ‘old Theo Walcott’ style. He’s so fast it’s impossible to recover back against him.”
