Redknapp: Blackpool misses ´unreal´

Harry Redknapp described the amount of chances Tottenham missed in their 3-1 loss away to Blackpool as ‘unreal’.

In a rollercoaster match at Bloomfield Road on Tuesday, Spurs created countless opportunities to score but failed to take any until Roman Pavlyuchenko finally netted in the 90th minute.

But by that point the hosts were already 3-0 up and cruising towards a vital win in the battle to preserve their English Premier League status.

Redknapp, meanwhile, was left to wonder how his players failed to make the breakthrough earlier as Spurs passed up the opportunity to climb to third in the table.

“I’ve never seen a team miss so many open goals in my life since I’ve been in football,” Redknapp said.

“I keep seeing them miss chances from three yards out, four yards out, six yards out and they can’t score and hitting people on the line, it’s unbelievable really.”

“We started OK and gave away a penalty under no pressure. It’s poor to give away a penalty when we did and it gives them a lift.”

“So then we come out second half and it is chance after chance after chance. (We) just needed one goal and the game would have turned upside down. But they just kept missing them. It’s unreal.”

“We’ve been on a good run and have had four straight wins, and obviously I was looking for five but it wasn’t to be.”

Blackpool boss Ian Holloway admitted afterwards that he held out little hope of gaining a positive result against the team that defeated Italian giants AC Milan away from home in their last outing.

“What can I say? (We’re) taking on one of the best teams in this division,” Holloway said.

“Harry’s got them going and watching them last week, I was terrified to be honest.”

“But I kept saying to the lads it will turn our way and maybe we’re a tad lucky.”

Blackpool are away to relegation rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, with Holloway hoping the victory over Spurs will serve as the impetus his players need to pick up another three points.

“Hopefully that will give us a lot of belief,” he said.

“Obviously we’ve got a tough game coming up on Saturday, but the spirit my boys have got, the new ones are getting a bit of it now and I’m delighted for them.”
