According to the People, 27-year-old Spanish international Dani Guiza, is under the radar of Pompey boss, Harry Redknapp.
Redknapp is desperate to find a top-class but affordable partner for Jermain Defoe, and Guiza may just fit within his budget. The player scored 27 goals last season to steer Mallorca to a seventh-place finish and take the top scorer trophy virtually unopposed.
Moreover, his performance earned him a place on Luis Aragones’ team that recently won the European Championships. While Fernando Torres and David Villa attracted most of the attention, more than a few keen eyes were trained on Guiza as he managed to get his name on the scoresheet repeatedly as a substitute.
Fenerbahce were thought to be on the verge of securing the Mallorca hitman’s signature after he reportedly underwent a medical in Istanbul, but the estimated €17million deal seems to have stalled. Several Premier League teams have allegedly expressed an interest, including Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Sunderland and Manchester City but Portsmouth, reports The People, are the latest outfit to have entered the race for the Spanish ace after having their bid for Liverpool striker, Peter Crouch rebuffed.
