Harry Redknapp has declined to hold back failing Tottenham’s progression in the Champions League, labelling it ‘a great achievement’.
The Spurs manager guided his side to a 3-3 draw at FC Twente on Tuesday, with the result ensuring his side topped Group A ahead of reigning champions Inter Milan, the Dutch title holders and German club Werder Bremen.
It made for a clearly delighted Redknapp after the game, who knows his side has avoided some of the competition’s bigger remaining clubs.
“At the start I said this was a tough group,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.
“We’ve got a team here that’s near the top of the Dutch league, Werder Bremen are a good side with lots of good players and have gone and beat Inter Milan, and Inter are the holders so I thought it was the toughest group.”
“We ended up in that group and to top it is a great achievement from the players.”
Spurs have been cavalier in their approach in Europe, becoming the first-ever side to score two or more goals in each group game.
While also conceding six, Redknapp was hardly looking for negatives after his side’s achievements.
“That’s how we’ve been,” Redknapp said.
“We’ve gone for it every game.”
“That’s how we play, we didn’t sit back and invite them on. We got goals and conceded three as well but overall I’m delighted with the effort of the players.”
