(GSM) – Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp claims the club is close to sealing a deal for Croatia goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa. The Spartak Moskva keeper is thought to be keen on a move to England and Redknapp has now made clear his intention to bring the Croatian to White Hart Lane.
Pletikosa had agreed to join Spurs on a loan deal last summer, but the move was cancelled after the keeper was ruled out with a knee injury. And after failing to sign Asmir Begovic, who moved to Stoke City instead, Redknapp has renewed his interest in Pletikosa.
Number two goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini is back in training after recovering from an injury sustained after a motorcycle accident back in November. But Redknapp is interested to bring-in Pletikosa who should provide competition for first-choice Heurelho Gomes.
Redknapp told Croatian Soccer Report: “I might be taking another goalkeeper from Croatia – Pletikosa. (There is) every chance I might be getting him, so that’s good.”
31-year-old Pletikosa, capped on 80 occasions by his country, expressed his wish to move to White Hart Lane back in February.
He said: “We have agreed to renew talks before the summer and I hope that I will finally have better luck when it comes to England.
“Spurs have shown me great respect and I can’t express my gratitude to Redknapp and his associates for the attention they have given to me.”
