New Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has not ruled out a raid on his old club Portsmouth once the transfer window opens on Janury 1.
Redknapp was officially confirmed as the new manager of Spurs, who are sitting bottom of the Premier League, on Sunday morning following the sacking of Juande Ramos on Saturday.
Former West Ham and Southampton manager Redknapp declared he is ready for the challenge of steering Spurs, whom he deems a “big, big club”, out of the Premier League doldrums.
And despite taking former Spurs frontman Jermain Defoe to Pompey, as well as signing another White Hart Lane old boy in Peter Crouch, Redknapp said he could not rule out raiding his old club when the transfer window opens again on January 1.
He said: “I would not sit here and say never. It depends whether the club want to sell them.
“If they did it would be an open market and we would be in there like every other Premier League club would be for one or two of the players.
“But if they did not want to sell them, then we would not be rocking the boat.
“It would be Portsmouth's decision.”
Portsmouth meanwhile begin life after Redknapp with a match against Fulham at Fratton Park on Sunday, with former Bolton and Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce the early favourite for the job on a permanent basis.
Their departing manager confirmed first-team coach Joe Jordan and Tony Adams, the assistant manager, would be in charge for the clash after a debrief Saturday morning.
Redknapp also revealed that he does not expect Adams to follow him to White Hart Lane, due to his links to north London rivals Arsenal, for whom he was a title-winning captain. However, the door seems open for Jordan.
He told BBC Radio Five Live Sportsweek programme: “Tony is an Arsenal man, so it would be very difficult.
“Joe Jordan has been fantastic for me, but I do not know what Joe would do.
“I would always be pleased to have Joe with me anywhere, but he is at Portsmouth at the moment and that is up to the club, Joe and everyone else to see what his situation is in the future.”
Redknapp added: “Portsmouth have been very fair to me, Peter Storrie is a good friend and they will continue to move forwards.
“They have some fantastic players and there is no reason why they should not have another great season.”
