Redknapp: Modric going nowhere

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has again insisted that midfielder Luka Modric will not be leaving the club.

New Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has already had two bids rejected for the Croatian playmaker, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy not tempted by the 30 million pounds reportedly on offer.

Redknapp reiterated his stance that Modric was a required player at White Hart Lane, and has urged the 25-year-old to get on with his football.

“The situation is that he’s not for sale,” Redknapp said. “The Chairman’s made that clear, and even yesterday, when I did speak to him, he said that Luka definitely wasn’t going. And that was the end of the matter as far as he was concerned.”

“He’s got to get on a plane now as far as we’re concerned. He needs to start playing.”

“It’s been difficult for him as it’d be difficult for anybody who’s got any common sense and knows when someone makes you a fantastic offer that’s going to a make a massive difference to what you’re going to earn and be able to do.”

“Nobody in their right mind wouldn’t have their head turned (at the offer), and people can sit here all day and say ‘well, he shouldn’t do this’ or ‘he shouldn’t do that’. They’re not in that position. But we want him here.”

Redknapp is also close to securing the services of former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor on loan from Manchester City, with the Spurs boss predicting the Togolese international could be an instant hit with the Tottenham faithful.

“The Arsenal fans hate Adebayor, so I am sure that will make the Tottenham fans like him,” he said.

“If he comes here and gets goals and plays well, they will love him. If he is useless, they will slaughter him.”

“He’s a good player. There’s no doubt he’s a talent. If we can get him at it he could come here and be a big success. He’s got a point to prove, hasn’t he, really?”

Redknapp is also keen on signing Liverpool’s Joe Cole – a player the manager knows well from his West Ham days – with the 29-year-old still out of favour at Anfield.

“No-one knows Joe better than me. I signed him as an 11-year-old and I’ve got all the time in the world for him,” Redknapp said.

“I think he’s a good player. We haven’t made any enquiries for him, but I wouldn’t sit here and say we wouldn’t have him at the club because I’d be lying. I do like him.”
