Redknapp plans to lure Beckham to Spurs

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp wants to bring David Beckham to White Hart Lane.

Beckham’s contract with LA Galaxy expires in November and at the moment no deal has been agreed with any club.

The former England captain has been linked with a move to QPR, but should he return to the Premier League where he first made his name, Redknapp hopes it is with Tottenham instead.

“If David wants to come to Tottenham I’d welcome him with open arms,” he told The Sun.

“He’s definitely still good enough to play in the Premier League.

“His game was never about pace so whether he’s quick or not isn’t an issue.

“David’s unique quality is his use of the ball and his ability to pick out a player with a pinpoint pass.

“He is unbelievable and still an exceptional talent.”

Beckham went to Tottenham last year to train after the MLS season finished, but was unable to work out a loan agreement which would have allowed him to play for the club.

He has always said he would only want to return to England if it was with Manchester United, but the chance to play in his home country before the start of next year would push him forward for a place in the British Olympic team.

For Redknapp, signing Beckham would be a coup not just for his footballing ability, but because of his attitude and the example he shows to the younger players.

“I know first hand because we had him here last winter and he was terrific around the place,” he continued.”

“You couldn’t find a nicer fella and a better professional.”

“He’s the best example there is for any young player, how he looks after himself, how he trains and how he’s stayed an ordinary guy despite his extraordinary success.”

“He is worth his weight in gold, he’d be an asset for any club. I’d have him here, that’s for sure.”

“He wouldn’t be able to play until the January transfer window opens, though, because we’ve already lodged our 25 players with the Premier League.”

“But he’d be a great one to have around the club again.”
