Harry Redknapp hailed his players’ fighting spirit after seeing Tottenham come from a goal down to beat Liverpool 2-1 on Sunday.

Spurs went behind to a goal from Slovakian defender Martin Skrtel three minutes before half-time at White Hart Lane, but they equalised when Skrtel put one through his own net in the 65th minute.

Aaron Lennon then struck in time added on to grab all three points, leaving Redknapp delighted with the comeback.

“The lads showed great character. To come back from behind again was just amazing,” Redknapp said.

“I’ve had teams in the past at times when they go one down and you might as well go home.”

“With this team we come back and keep going. There’s goals, we’re exciting, we play fantastic, open football and we’re never out of a game.”

“I think we’ve got the ability to always create chances, that’s for sure.”

After seeing his side throw away their lead in north London, insult was compounded by injury for Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson, as central defender Jamie Carragher was forced out of the game with a dislocated shoulder.

“It’s very bad,” Hodgson said of the injury.

“He’s dislocated his shoulder. It’s an unfortunate thing to happen on his 450th appearance in the Premier League.”

“He’s a very important player for us. We’ll now be without him and Steven Gerrard and they are the lifeblood of our club.”

“To lose in injury time in the way we did is very hard to take.”

“I’m very disappointed for the players, very disappointed that we didn’t come away from here with at least one point which would have been something we could have been proud of.”

“Unfortunately it’s a defeat and defeats hit you very hard.”

“We missed some very good chances. We played some good football to get us into that position.”

“We haven’t played that badly this year but we haven’t got the points and that’s the problem.”
