Redknapp rules out Chelsea switch

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has ruled out the possibility of him becoming Chelsea manager following the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas.

The Spurs boss predicted a supporter backlash if he were to make the move to west London to take over at Stamford Bridge.

“That’s all I need. I wouldn’t be able to come back to north London, so I think I’ll pass on that one,” Redknapp told reporters.

“Patience is not a virtue in football. Unless you keep winning every week you’re going to have to accept that’s part of the job.”

“So many people would love that job and a chance to work at a great club with a backing that the manager gets there but you’ve gotta make a success of it.

“That’s the rules. If you don’t then you’re not going to last but if you do well, the sky’s the limit.”

Redknapp has been linked with the vacant post as England manager, a position vacated by Fabio Capello last month.

Capello is also thought to be on the shortlist to replace Villas-Boas at Chelsea, along with former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez and Blues fans’ favourite Jose Mourinho.

Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers has also ruled himself out of the role, saying taking over at Stamford Bridge would ‘destroy’ his career.
