Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp was very happy with his club’s first half performance against Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
Don’t blink now but Spurs have now won three consecutive matches after losing their first two matches of the 2011-12 Premier League campaign. Redknapp’s side were demolished by Manchester United (3-0) and Manchester City (5-1) in their first two games.
“We’re very, very strong and I think we’ve got the makings of a really good side.
“We lost Jermain Defoe, who was ill overnight and had a high temperature. We had to get a driver to drive him back to London to get him home.
“Sandro came back today alongside Scott Parker and I liked the look of that combination in there. It gave us some strength and I think we’re looking strong.
“It was complete domination first half really and we could’ve been at least four-up.
“We absolutely controlled the game from the start to the finish of the half, and then we did exactly what I told them at half-time not to do, and that was to get sloppy and give a sloppy goal away because they needed a lift.
“If we could’ve started the first 10 minutes as we played in the first half it would’ve been game over.”
Redknapp deserves a lot of credit for Tottenham’s early season shift in form. The Tottenham boss somehow managed to keep Croatian midfielder Luka Modric, despite several bids from Chelsea FC. He was also able to bring in Emmanuel Adebayor, who is the ideal front-man for Spurs. Redknapp also added Scott Parker on transfer deadline day to round out a solid off-season for Tottenham.
Can Tottenham challenge for a place in the top four this season? Surely. The number four spot is up for grabs at the moment and Spurs are more than capable of securing it by the seasons end.
Dalglish Hails Fantastic Uruguayan
Kenny Dalglish has nothing but praise for Uruguayan talisman Luis Suarez. Since arriving at Anfield from Dutch giants Ajax, Suarez has been absolutely magnificent. He is undoubtedly one of the Premier League top strikers and a bargain compared to Fernando Torres. Suarez cost the Reds about 22.5 million pounds, while Chelsea paid just over 50 million for Torres.
After Liverpool’s win against Wolves on Saturday, Dalglish told Sky Sports:
“He is playing with a wee smile on his face all the time and he is a good personality to have in and around the place.
“On the pitch, he has made a fantastic contribution. We are fortunate to have him and we look forward to a lot more happy days with him.”
A happy striker is a dangerous striker. At least that’s a saying that I have found true since watching football. Suarez is ecstatic at the moment, which bodes well for Liverpool and their efforts to secure a top four place this season.
