Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has revealed that club chairman Daniel Levy told Luka Modric he could move to Real Madrid following the 2011-12 season, The Sun reports.
“I would not be sure Luka would start the season at Tottenham,” Redknapp told The Sun. “The club would be happy to sell if they get the right money.
“The chairman said to him last year ‘Give us one more season and if Real come in I won’t stand in your way.’”
The Croatian international has been linked with a move to European giants Real Madrid all summer long, with Jose Mourinho’s squad-building ‘almost complete’.
Modric tallied four goals and four assists in 36 starts for Spurs in the English Premier League last term.

Lucas nears United switch
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are closing in on 19-year-old São Paulo starlet Lucas Moura, with reports suggesting the Red Devils have agreed a £30 million transfer fee for the Brazilian attacker.
Lucas reportedly underwent a medical in Manchester yesterday, fueling speculation that United are set to win the race for the Brazilian ace.
A bevy of Europe’s top football club’s, including the likes of Inter Milan, Paris Saint Germain and Real Madrid, have shown interest in Lucas this summer.
The 19-year-old Brazil international could potentially become Sir Alex Ferguson’s third summer signing, with Nick Powell (Crewe Alexandra F.C., £4m) and Shinji Kagawa (Borussia Dortmund, £17m) already having penned four-year deals with the Red Devils.
In other news, Arsenal skipper Robin van Persie could also be on his way to Old Trafford amidst speculation that United are plotting a £20 million move for the Gunners’ talisman.
RVP played in all 38 Premier League matches for the Gunners last term, netting a league-leading 30 goals while adding nine assists.
The striker duo of Rooney and Van Persie might just be enough to make United the favourites to regain Premier League supremacy from bitter inner-city rivals Manchester City.
Furthermore, United are being linked with a move for out-of-favour Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin, Metro understands.
Sahin, who’s situation is being closely monitored by Gunners manager Arsene Wenger, scored one goal in 10 appearances in all competitions in his disappointing debut campaign for Los Blancos last term. As a result, the Turkey international is at the bottom of Jose Mourinho’s pecking order.
