Harry Redknapp has expressed his pride in turning Tottenham into Premier League challengers despite not spending ‘fortunes’ on players.
Redknapp took a swipe at title rivals Chelsea and Manchester City for their big spending, and particularly at league leaders City, who can afford to pay players an ‘unbelievable’ 200,000 pounds per week.
Spurs currently sit just three points off top spot after bouncing back from August defeats to the two Manchester clubs.
“City are where they are because of Sheikh Mansour and Chelsea thanks to Roman Abramovich,” Redknapp told The Sun.
“We have not done it that way and it makes me proud.”
“You don’t have to go out and spend fortunes to find good players.”
Tottenham travel to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday week for what is a top-of-the-table clash.
“Spurs are not third in the Premier League because someone has walked through the door at White Hart Lane and slapped a bundle of money on my desk,” Redknapp said.
“City can pay players 200,000 pounds a week, it’s unbelievable.”
“Man United wanted Samir Nasri but he blew them out for City. The people running Spurs have invested wisely.”
“Some of the players we brought in raised eyebrows, like Younes Kaboul, but he’s made excellent progress. Hopefully it is coming together now.”
