Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is the best man to lead England, according to Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
Fabio Capello resigned from his role as head coach of the Three Lions team on Wednesday after a disagreement with the FA over John Terry’s removal as captain.
In a quirky turn of events, Redknapp was cleared of tax evasion mere hours earlier and Ferguson was not hesitant in naming the Spurs man as his top choice for the vacancy.
“There is no doubt Harry Redknapp is the best man,” the 70-year-old told reporters on Friday. “He has the experience and personality and the knowledge of the game.”
“He has changed the fortunes of every club he has been at. He is the right choice.”
Tottenham are currently five points behind the Red Devils, who sit two points adrift of Premier League table-toppers Manchester City.
The FA have suggested that the man they choose to take England through Euro 2012 and beyond could also stay at the club until the end of the season, which could pander more to Redknapp’s current situation.
The Old Trafford boss, who was caretaker boss for Scotland at the 1986 World Cup while at Aberdeen, added: “I tried it myself with Scotland in Mexico. I found it very difficult.”
