Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp says his team still have an outside chance of winning the English Premier League after their 3-0 win over Bolton.
Goals from Gareth Bale, Aaron Lennon and Jermain Defoe powered Spurs to victory at White Hart Lane on Saturday, equalling their record of 11 games unbeaten in the Premier League and taking their winning league run to six matches.
Redknapp believes there is no reason why the north London outfit cannot make a push for the top spot come the end of the season.
“I didn’t say we would win the league, I just said it’s not impossible and it’s not impossible,” Redknapp told the BBC.
“It’s not impossible for Liverpool to win it, for Arsenal to win it, and it’s not impossible for us to win it. It’s there for somebody. Man City are favourites, obviously, as they are in pole position.”
“Man United and Chelsea will be there as usual. If we have another run like the one we’ve just had we will be there. We just have to keep winning games as everybody is playing very well.”
Bolton will feel aggrieved by the controversial first-half sending-off of Gary Cahill for a challenge on Scott Parker, and Redknapp himself conceded the decision was a tough one.
“I thought it was very harsh. I couldn’t believe it when the red card came out. It was very difficult to understand that one,” the 64-year-old said.
Bolton boss Owen Coyle said he was baffled and angered by Cahill’s dismissal.
“Angry would be an understatement,” Coyle told Sky Sports. “I like to think I’ve seen a lot of things in football but I’m totally bemused by that decision.”
“Not by the decision to award a free-kick or even a yellow card but to turn that into a red card. It has to be a clear goal-scoring opportunity to send somebody off.”
“Now Scott Parker’s a fantastic player but he’s took the touch and he’s 55 yards from goal. We’ve got Zat Knight in the middle and other defenders covering back.”
“I will appeal whenever I’m allowed to; I tried to put the appeal in before the game had even finished. If that’s not overturned it will be incredible.”
