Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has dismissed Manchester United as ‘not good enough’ to remain unbeaten ahead of their Sunday showdown.
Spurs host Sir Alex Ferguson’s side at White Hart Lane this weekend in the knowledge that a win will trim the eight-point deficit separating them from United on top of the English Premier League table.
Ferguson’s men have gone 20 games without loss this season, leading some to predict a repeat of Arsenal’s unbeaten run through the 2003/04 season.
But Redknapp believes it is only a matter of time before United taste defeat, and he expects the rest of England to be willing Spurs forward on Sunday.
“As good as they are I do not think they are good enough to go through the whole season unbeaten,” Redknapp said in his column in The Sun.
“Even if they win the Premier League title this season, Arsenal are the original Invincibles and their record is going to stay intact.”
“Of course, I’d love it if it will be my Tottenham team that ends United’s unbeaten run on Sunday and we have a chance of doing it.”
“It’s not as if United are Barcelona or Real Madrid who are on another planet to everyone else.”
“We can bring them down to earth and for the sake of the title race I bet everyone who doesn’t support Man Utd will be hoping we do.”
Off the pitch, Redknapp has a formidable weapon at his disposal in the form of former Old Trafford superstar David Beckham, who is training at White Hart Lane in the MLS off-season.
But the Spurs boss has ruled out mining Beckham’s knowledge of his old club, saying it would be unfair on the Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder.
“We have had David Beckham training with us this week and he grew up at Old Trafford,” Redknapp said.
“But I wouldn’t dream of asking him if he knows any secrets about his old club that could help us. It wouldn’t be right.”
