Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp conceded Spurs’ Champions League hopes were bruised by a 3-3 draw at Wolverhampton on Sunday.
Spurs looked to have sealed up the three points and a trip back to the top four on the English Premier League table when Roman Pavlyuchenko put the visitors up 3-2 early in the second half.
But Steven Fletcher nodded in a late equaliser in the 87th minute to snatch a point for the relegation-threatened Wolves, who are now two points away from escaping the drop zone.
Redknapp, who is aiming for a second consecutive Champions League berth after seeing the Premiership race fall seemingly out of reach, was disappointed not have come away with more from the Molineux.
“Obviously it’s a blow, you look like you’ve got three points but you only end up with one,” he told Sky Sports.
“But you just keep going. We’ve got another game next week and we’ll see how we go.”
“We had some unbelievable opportunities when Gareth (Bale) has gone through or when Jermain (Defoe) hit the post.”
“(Wolves) never gave up. They are a good side and I certainly don’t see them being a relegation outfit.”
“They play with great enthusiasm and ability, but I felt we would win after getting in front.”
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy was thrilled to escape with a point after thrice conceding the lead to Tottenham, though he rued a disallowed Richard Stearman goal that replays suggested should have stood.
Referee Mark Halsey chalked off the second-half goal for a foul on Spurs goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes that did not appear to be there.
“Yes I am (happy), because there is nothing we could do about their first two goals and their third goal, that was our gross stupidity at the start of the second half,” McCarthy said.
“But our reaction to that was just terrific and we’ve had a goal disallowed that’s never been a foul.”
“I think it’s just typical that when you don’t know you toe the party line and give the foul on the goalkeeper.”
“It’s not a foul and it should have been a goal, which is disappointing, but those things happen and we got the equaliser.”
“I might have been saying different if we’d lost the game.”
Asked about Wolves’ relegation scrap, McCarthy said: “I think it will be a high number of points, but with that level of spirit and kind of performance, I maintain we will stay up.”
