(GSM) – Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Portugal international Raul Meireles from Porto.
The 27-year-old, who was one of the star performer for his national side at the 2010 World Cup, had been linked with a move to Premier League with Manchester United being his possible destination.
But following the sale of Javier Mascherano’s unsavory move to Barcelona, Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has moved in quickly to fill the gap left by the Argentine enforcer.
A statement on the club’s official website said, ”Liverpool have confirmed a fee has been agreed with FC Porto for the transfer of Portuguese midfielder Raul Meireles to Anfield.”
The former Boavista midfielder is now subject to a medical at Anfield and agree personal terms before signing for the Merseyside club.
