The Premier League insist they have no plans to invite foreign referees to take charge of domestic matches in England.
One report on Wednesday suggested Spanish official Manuel Mejuto Gonzalez had been invited to referee in the Premier League next season.
However a spokesman for Professional Game Match Officials Ltd – the body that runs the referees – insisted that was not the case.
A PGMOL spokesman said: “There are no discussions regarding the use of foreign officials in the English game and the Professional Game Match Officials Ltd (PGMO) has no plans to do so.”
