Referee should have looked at VAR screen – Aston Villa boss Dean Smith on penalty given to Manchester United against his team (Video)

Manchester United beat Aston Villa on Friday by 2-1 at Old Trafford in the Premier League, equaling Liverpool’s point tally at the top of the table. Anthony Martial opened the scoring in the 40th minute, but the visitors equalized through Bertrand Traore in the 58th.

Nonetheless, Bruno Fernandes made sure the points stayed in Manchester with a well-taken penalty, which was given for a foul on Paul Pogba.

Villa manager Dean Smith, however, believes the decision to give the penalty was wrong. It was checked and confirmed by VAR, but referee Michael Oliver wasn’t sent to the pitch-side screen, which Smith says he should have been.
