Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina will be fit for pre-season training after successfully undergoing an operation on a double hernia.
The Spaniard underwent surgery in Germany and the English Premier League club expects him to resume training with the rest of the squad next month.
Reina put off the procedure during the season so that he could continue playing a key role in Liverpool’s resurgence under manager Kenny Dalglish, helping them finish sixth after a poor start to the campaign.
“Liverpool today confirmed that Pepe Reina has undergone successfully surgery on a double hernia,” a statement on the club’s website read on Monday.
“The decision was taken for the Reds keeper to undergo a non-emergency operation in Munich at the end of the season.”
“The Spanish international will now begin a rehabilitation program and is expected to return with the rest of the squad for pre-season training next month.”
