Lazio coach Edy Reja believes his side can still challenge AC Milan and Juventus for the Serie A title.
The Roman club entertain Bologna on Sunday and head into the game in third place on the table, six points behind the Rossoneri and four behind Antonio Conte’s men.
Despite their strong position, Reja has downplayed his side’s chances of winning the Scudetto, but is adamant Lazio could play a role in the title chase with a full-strength squad.
“It’s true that we are not that far from the top two, but we’ll have to see how things go with our injuries,” he said on Saturday.
“Milan and Juventus are superior, but if we get our injured players back then we can have our say.”
“At the same time, we have to be realistic, as in terms of strength in depth we cannot compete with those two. Getting into the Champions League would be very satisfying.”
“I am convinced that Napoli and Inter will also fight to the end with us for the positions that count.”
Lazio head into the game on the back of a morale-boosting derby win against Roma, and despite being overjoyed with the result, Reja has urged his men to focus against Bologna.
“It was pleasing to see the derby celebrations stretch on through the week, but we know the season is not over yet and Bologna are a big test,” he said.
“This match is fundamentally important so that we can keep believing in our objective which is to qualify for the Champions League.”
