Frenchman Herve Renard has been appointed coach of Angola, the national press agency Angop reported Thursday.

The 41-year-old Renard has signed a two-year renewable contract with the Angolan football federation.

Renard led Zambia to the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations in January, but asked to be relieved of his duties this week.

He takes over from Portuguese coach Manuel Jose, who quit after the African Cup of Nations where the hosts also reached the quarter-finals.
