Competition: Ligue 1

Market: Rennes win

Odds: 10/11 @ 888sport

Making their first appearance at Roazhon Park since opening up the new campaign, Champions League outfit Rennes will face off against Montpellier from behind closed doors.

Starting with the hosts, while a 10-men Rennes might have opened up the new campaign with a 1-1 draw away at Lille last week, Julien Stéphan’s men really shocked many up and down Ligue 1 last season. Securing a shock third-place finish before last year’s campaign was brought to an early finish, Les Rennais managed to secure a maiden spot in this year’s Champions League and had previously gained quite the reputation for their rampant displays on home soil. Last seen on top-flight duties at Roazhon Park on March 8th, Rennes picked up what was a stunning 5-0 romp against Saturday’s guests and they had lost just a single contest at home in any of their previous 10 appearances.

As for the visitors, making their first Ligue 1 appearance of the season on Saturday, there is no doubt that Montpellier have been handed an unenviable task. Collecting just three points over their final four Ligue 1 last time out, La Paillade had a worrying reputation for their issues on the road. Including losing each of their last four contests away from the Stade de la Mosson, they remarkably landed just a single away victory throughout last year’s interrupted campaign. Along with their woeful 5-0 drumming when they closed last year’s interrupted campaign away at Roazhon Park back in March, Montpellier lost back-to-back showdowns against Rennes last season and we’re backing a similar home victory this weekend.
