Rennes eyeing permanent deal for Nelson Oliveira

Portuguese daily newspaper Record has suggested that Rennes are exploring the possibility of turning Nelson Oliveira’s loan into permanent deal.

The talented forward joined les Bretons on a season-long loan from Benfica in the summer, having rejected offers from English Premier League.

Oliveira in turn impressed at Stade de la Route de Lorient, notching 7 goals in 18 Ligue 1 outings, with the club officials delighted by the player’s impact.

As a result, they are now hoping to buy the forward outright, although Benfica’s high asking price could prove to be obstacle to any deal.

Even when he was not considered a first team regular at Benfica and Deportivo La Coruna, Oliveira was a part of Portugal national team and having impressed in his first season in France, chances are he will make the Seleccao World Cup squad.

Meanwhile, his current side have suffered three straight defeats in Ligue 1, with Rennes 5/4 to return to winning ways against Nice on 11th January.
