Michael Rensing faces his last months with Bayern Munich. The goalkeeper has decided not to extend his contract with the Bavarians. Rensing is second choice for Bayern boss Louis van Gaal.
“I only look at the future and I want to prove that I’m a good goalkeeper at another club,” Rensing told Bild. “I want to finish my term at Bayern with dignity. I want to return to the goal and play some good matches. I want to prove that I can be a good goalie for Bayern.”
The 25-year-old Rensing was considered to be Oliver Kahn’s successor but couldn’t meet the high expectations at the Allianz Arena. Van Gaal’s predecessor Jurgen Klinsmann opted for Hans-Jorg Butt halfway through the season while the Dutch coach also picked Butt as his first choice during the season.
“I should’ve left earlier, instead of waiting until Kahn finally ended his career,” Rensing added. “Then I would’ve been between the posts at another club for two or three years. But, my time will come.” So far, Rensing played 52 matches for Bayern.
