David Beckham will reportedly join Tottenham on a two-month loan spell after being given the blessing of MLS club the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp triggered speculation last week by declaring his interest in the 35-year-old former England international, who Redknapp claims made an approach to Tottenham through the manager’s son, Jamie.
Galaxy bosses were initially reluctant to allow their prized midfielder to leave on loan after he suffered an Achilles injury while with AC Milan last year, but Goal.com is reporting that the MLS club has had a change of heart after meeting with Beckham’s management.
Beckham is now expected to meet with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to finalise the deal, which will reportedly net the former Manchester United star a fee in the region of 120,000 pounds per week.
Tottenham are keen to unveil their new signing at Sunday’s FA Cup clash against Charlton Athletic ahead of an emotional Premier League return against United on January 16.
All told, he will be available for eight league fixtures and a Champions League clash at Milan before returning to Galaxy.
Contrary to Redknapp’s feigned lack of interest in the January transfer window, Tottenham are believed to be working very hard behind the scenes to secure a number of new players.
The club are rumoured to have made a 20-million-pound approach for Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll, while Everton midfielder and South Africa star Steven Pienaar is also tipped to be heading to White Hart Lane.
