CSKA Moscow are on the verge of signing AZ Alkmaar midfielder Pontus Wernbloom, according to reports.
The Sweden international has been a key part of Gertjan Verbeek’s side in their rise to the top of the current Eredivisie standings, impressing for club and country in 2011.
Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf has indicated that the Russian outfit are close to completing a three-million-euro deal for the 25-year-old, who will move to Arena Khimki before the end of the month.
The Scandinavian’s current employers were thought to be keen to hold onto the former Goteborg man until season’s end, but may have their hand forced by the nature of the bid.
AZ are set to travel to Turkey for a training camp this weekend, and it is reported that Wernbloom will not travel with his team-mates, as a deal is close to being concluded.
The Kungalv-born midfielder’s current contract in the Netherlands runs until the summer of 2013.
