Competition: World Cup Qualifiers
Market: Ireland to win against Georgia
Odds: 4/9 @ Bet 365

The Republic of Ireland welcome Georgia to the Aviva Stadium in Thursday night’s World Cup European Qualifier, and are favourites to come out on top to pick up all three points to potentially go top of Group D depending on other results. Ireland are targeting a top-two finish but can’t afford any more dropped points against lower-ranked opposition so this week’s meeting at the Aviva Stadium has to result in a home win minimum.

Ireland are coming off the back of two wins and a draw from their last four in all competitions. Their last home game saw them thrash Oman 4-0 in August, but most recently earned a draw away to Serbia in their opening World Cup qualifier so they’ll fancy their chances of getting a result. Currently third in Group D after the first round of games, a big win at the Aviva Stadium could see Republic of Ireland finish the day at the summit.

As for their opponents, Georgia find themselves fifth in Group D without a point to their name following a home defeat to Austria in September in their opening World Cup qualifier, and are underdogs to get a result this week given their woeful form in 2016. The visitors have suffered three defeats and picked up one draw from their last five games in all competitions, having been on the wrong end of 3-1 and 5-1 defeats away to Slovakia and Romania respectively.

With the hosts having lost just once in Ireland in the last 12 months, their meeting at the Aviva Stadium could well be one-sided. Defeat for Georgia would see them in a precarious position early on in Group D, while putting Republic of Ireland in fantastic shape to challenge for a top-two finish.
