Brazil beat Peru in the final of the 2019 Copa America on Sunday by 3-1. They eliminated Argentina in the semifinal, and after that game Lionel Messi fired a series of accusations of corruption at the CONMEBOL and expressed his belief that the competition had been arranged for Brazil to win.
His words sparked wave of reaction from the members of the Brazil team, as well as from the South American football governing body itself. The Barcelona superstar is now reportedly facing a lengthy ban.
One of the Brazilians who have responded was Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva. At the end of an interview following the final, he said that those who lose search for excuses, and that it cannot be said that the five stars above their national team’s crest were stolen. His final words to the Argentine were that he should respect their history.
BOOM!
In EXCLUSIVE interview Thiago Silva asks Messi for respect:“I felt (listening Messi’s words) that who loses is finding excuses. But you can’t look at our 5 stars on the chest (he makes gesture!) and say we stole them all. Respect our history!” pic.twitter.com/sJzWySTFdt
