Marco Reus believes Germany are still in good shape heading into Euro 2012, despite their friendly defeat to France on Wednesday.
An under-strength Germany suffered a 2-1 defeat to France in Bremen, with Borussia Moenchengladbach’s Reus playing the opening 70 minutes for his first international start.
Speaking afterwards, the 22-year-old said he still has some way to go if he is to convince coach Joachim Loew of his worth.
“For my first start I had envisioned something different,” Reus told Goal.com.
“Now I have to put my foot on the gas and offer my best to the coach.”
While the result was disappointing, Reus maintains World Cup semi-finalists Germany are well-placed to challenge in Poland and Ukraine later this year.
“We wanted to win the game against France, of course, that was our goal,” he said.
“It was almost the last game before the summer.”
“Of course, we then have a training camp and just before the Euro starts, a couple of games. I think overall we are on the right track.”
