The first Revierderby of the season can still go ahead despite Borussia Dortmund midfielder Emre Can testing positive for coronavirus.
Dortmund announced on Friday that Can had returned a positive result prior to their meeting with arch-rivals Schalke at Signal Iduna Park in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
However, with the Germany international isolating at home and the rest of the team and staff testing negative, BVB assured their meeting with Schalke can go ahead.
“Borussia Dortmund player Emre Can tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday. The Germany player, who was unable to take part in the Champions League trip to Rome [to face Lazio on Tuesday] is asymptomatic and in domestic isolation,” a statement issued by the club read.
“After a thorough exchange with the Dortmund health department, the training session before the Revierderby on Saturday originally scheduled for 17:00 [local time on Friday] was postponed to 18:30. Nothing stands in the way of the match being played.
“Borussia Dortmund wishes Emre Can a continued symptom-free experience and a speedy recovery.”
Emre Can has tested positive for COVID-19. He is symptom-free and in domestic quarantine.
Further tests taken by players and staff came back negative on Friday.
