It’s been an exciting transfer window so far, to say the least. With almost half of the summer gone, let’s take a look at all the newest rumors surrounding the Italian transfer market.
The Return of Aubameyang?
With Milan dishing out some serious cash, financing seven new acquisitions, Yonghong Li and the Chinese ownership have set their eyes on another target — Aubameyang. The Gabonese striker was a product of Milan’s youth academy, and the Rossoneri are looking to get him back. While Chinese clubs are offering him mega salaries around €30 million a year, Aubameyang doesn’t seem interested in joining the Chinese Super League, preferring to compete within Europe.
While Milan’s lack of Champions League play may deter the striker, their project looks promising, and one could argue that their squad is better than Dortmund’s. It looks as though Mirabelli and Fassone would be willing to offer €8 million/year to the player and around €70 million to Dortmund. The deal could even be completed as soon as next week when Milan take on Dortmund in China for the International Champions Cup.
Costa to Juve
Douglas Costa seems primed for a move to Turin after Juve edged closer to meeting Bayern’s terms. The specifics of the deal are still unknown, but it is speculated that the move will consist of two parts: a €10 million loan and a €30 million option or obligation to buy. This saga has dragged on for just about the entire window, and it looks as though it will finally be over soon. The Brazilian winger has impressed for Bayern and Juve is looking to boost their wing play.
The move should be completed within the next couple of days so that the Brazilian playmaker can head with Juve to their US tour.
Who’s Going Out?
While there’s not a huge influx of players, there is a lot of speculation of players going out. With Roma already selling Salah and Paredes, they’ve added a new player to the list, selling Rudiger to Chelsea for around €40 million. It’s yet to be seen whether the Giallorossi will make any purchases with these newly acquired funds, but they certainly have the money to make a big signing.
Taking a look at Juventus, Cuadrado could be forced out with the arrival of Douglas Costa. Some sources even speculate that there could be a swap deal with Milan in the works — De Sciglio plus some cash for the winger. It would be a deal that Montella would certainly appreciate, considering that Cuadrado was a former Fiorentina player.
With all the new players coming in, Milan are bound to have to send some out as well. Their three current forwards — Bacca, Niang, and Lapadula — could all be leaving the club, the first two on permanent transfers while the third could be utilized in a deal with Lazio for Lucas Biglia. There’s plenty of action going on in and around Milanello, and there very well might be some stuff we don’t know about.
It’s been an exciting transfer window so far, especially for Milan fans, and the excitement is only growing. Will the Rossoneri continue their spending spree? Is Roma a saver or a spender? Will Inter ever burst out onto the scene? These are all questions that we could see answered in the next couple of weeks, and here’s to an exciting rest of the window!
