Bayern Munich's France international midfielder Franck Ribery has undergone successful surgery on his ankle and will be back in action early September, the club announced on Saturday.

The 25-year-old, who damaged ankle ligaments in last month's Euro 2008, had a metal screw removed from his left ankle.

“The procedure took place without any complication and Ribery has already begun his physiotheraphy,” a statement from the club read.

Ribery will miss the defending champions' start to the season on August 15 at home to Hamburg.
