Former Valencia defender Ricardo Costa has all but confirmed that he will be joining Sporting Lisbon in the January transfer window.
The 33-year-old has been playing for Al Sailiya in Qatar over the past six months, but it appears he is now eager to return to the big stage.
Ricardo Costa has moved to confirm that his representatives have been in talks with Sporting Lisbon ahead of the proposed move to Estadio Jose Alvalade.
“We have spoken about the Sporting situation,” the veteran defender told Record. “It is on the table, we will see in the coming days.”
With centre-back Mauricio reportedly on the radar of Lazio, the Lions aim to sign an experienced defender this winter and no doubt Ricardo Costa would be a major asset to the squad.
The former Portugal international began his career at FC Porto, and went on to play for Wolfsburg and Lille before moving to Valencia in 2010.
He in turn enjoyed several successful seasons at Mestalla, making 87 La Liga appearances and scoring 7 goals in the process.
