Riquelme hints at Villarreal return
Boca Juniors playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme has revealed that he would be prepared to return to Villarreal.
The Argentine midfield maestro enjoyed a lot of success during his time at El Madrigal and he is now prepared to help the Yellow Submarine in this difficult time for the club.
Asked by Marca whether he would accept an offer to help Villarreal, Riquelme replied:
“I would go tomorrow. I would ask for permission from Boca. This is my club. Next to Boca, that is.
”I have spent incredible years there and now I see that they are suffering. They have always treated with well and if they need me, I will be there.”
The Argentine playmaker joined Villarreal after the unsuccessful spell at Barcelona and spent four great years at El Madrigal before falling out with coach Manuel Pellegrini.
Riquelme then returned to his boyhood club Boca Juniors, where he has earned a cult-hero status.
Dempsey wants Champions League football
Fulham in-form forward Clint Dempsey admits he wants to play Champions League football in the future.
The 28-year-old has been in scintillating form this season, scoring 9 goals in 22 Premier League games despite playing on the wing.
Dempsey has been attracting a lot of attention with his impressive displays, with Arsenal and few other European clubs reportedly interested in the player’s services.
The Cottagers are trying everything they can to persuade the player into staying at Craven Cottage, but the player admits he is tempted by the prospect of playing Champions League football elsewhere.
“You should never get content. I want to play in the Champions League,” Dempsey was quoted as saying in The Times.
“Nobody thought I would get this far. I want to go as far as I can.”
The United States international joined Fulham in a $4 million deal from New England Revolution in January 2007 and he has since impressed playing for the Cottagers.
Dempsey has so far featured in 159 Premier League games and scored 41 goals in the process in spite of mostly being deployed as a winger.
Lucho Gonzalez set to rejoin Porto
Marseille midfielder Lucho Gonzalez is set to return to Porto, L’Equipe has revealed.
The Argentine playmaker joined Marseille from Porto in an €18 million deal in June 2009, but failed to live up to the expectations at Velodrome.
The 31-year-old revealed his desire to leave the French giants in the summer, but Marseille received no concrete offers for the veteran midfielder.
Marseille chiefs are ready to cash in on the highly rated midfielder and everything suggests that Lucho will leave the club before the January transfer window closes.
According to L’Equipe, his former club Porto have offered to loan the player until the end of the season with an option to make the transfer permanent.
The newspaper claims that Lucho is open to the idea of rejoining the club where he made a name for himself.
Gonzalez has one and a half years left on his deal at Marseille, meaning that he will be available at a cut-back price.
