Argentine giants River Plate have moved to confirm that they have started negotiations with former player Javier Saviola.
After Pablo Aimar returned to Monumental six months ago, the Millionaires are determined to bring back his former teammate as well and further reinforce the squad.
And with Saviola’s contract at Hellas Verona set to expire in June, River Plate hope to sign the veteran striker on a free transfer this summer.
The player himself is reportedly interested in Argentina return and coach Marcelo Gallardo confirms he has already spoken with the 33-year-old footballer.
“I spoke with him today (Tuesday), but we have scheduled a talk for later,” Gallardo confessed to Ole.
Javier Saviola came through the youth ranks at River Plate and went on to make 86 league appearances, scoring 45 goals before making a switch to Barcelona.
He has since represented Monaco, Sevilla, Real Madrid, Benfica, Malaga, Olympiakos and Hellas Verona, and now looks set to return to where it all started for him.
