River Plate have moved to confirm reports linking them with a swoop for Roma midfielder David Pizarro.
The Argentine giants have returned to the top flight after spending one season in the second division and even if the new league campaign has already started they are still searching for summer reinforcements.
The squad are a bit short of experience following departures of Alejandro Dominguez and Fernando Cavenaghi, with the club chiefs looking to address the problem by signing David Pizarro from Roma.
“We are following David, he is a great player and one we want at River Plate,” River Plate vice-president Omar Solassi explained to La Tercera.
“We will talk together and make an effort to bring him here. We have some problems regarding our spaces for foreign players, but to facilitate his arrival we are ready to make the necessary sacrifices.”
The Chilean midfielder no longer features in Zdenek Zeman’s plans and he has been left out of the squad for pre-season training camp in Austria.
The 32-year-old has spent last six seasons at Olimpico, although he spent the second part of last season on loan at Manchester City.
Pizarro has scored 24 goals in 299 Serie A appearances while playing for Udinese, Inter and Roma.
