Argentine giants River Plate are weighing up move for Benfica playmaker Pablo Aimar, according to A Bola.

The 31-year-old midfielder has one year left on his contract at La Luz and has yet to make a decision regarding his future.

Aimar is reportedly open to a return to Argentina and he has already been linked with a move to Belgrano.

According to A Bola, River Plate have also shown interest in his services and they are hoping to sign the player on free at the end of the season.

The Argentine giants have been relegated to the second division but are hoping to return to the top flight next term and the club chiefs believe they can persuade Aimar into accepting their offer.

In spite of recent relegation to the second tier, River managed get players like Fernando Cavenaghi and Chori Dominguez to return to Monumental and they are hoping Aimar will do the same come end of the season.
