Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes revealed Arjen Robben will replace Franck Ribery for their DFB Pokal quarter-final with Borussia Dortmund.
The France international was dismissed during Bayern’s last cup outing away to Augsburg and Heynckes said Robben is available to deputise for the suspended Ribery.
Speaking to FCB.tv, the coach said: “There is no need to be secretive about it. Providing he (Robben) stays fit and trains as normal tomorrow, he will obviously start on Wednesday.”
The Netherlands international, along with Philipp Lahm and Dante, did not train on Monday ahead of the fixture, but Heynckes revealed he had simply afforded the trio a day off.
“A day of rest will do them all good in my opinion,” Heynckes said.
In the build up to the clash, a host of Bayern affiliates have weighed in on the match.
Franz Beckbenbauer has described the meeting as ‘a game of football set to fulfill all expectations’, while Lahm has claimed, ‘the whole of Germany is looking forward to it’.
The fixture represents Dortmund’s last realistic chance of silverware this season with Heynckes’ Bayern sitting 17 points above Klopp’s charges at the Bundesliga summit.
