Roberto Mancini is confident that Manchester City will bounce back quickly following their 2-1 loss at Stamford Bridge on Monday.
The loss was City’s first in the Premier League all season and trimmed their lead at the top of the table to just two points.
Can City turn it around quickly?
Mancini surely thinks so.
“At this moment, we should be very strong,” Mancini told reporters.
“It is at these moments that you become stronger, as players and a team. For this reason, the result is a lesson for us.”
City were denied a penalty in the first-half when Jose Bosingwa dangled his leg in front of David Silva, who leapt over the Portuguese and took a theatrical tumble.
Nonetheless, it could have easily been ruled a penalty.
“If the Silva penalty had been awarded, probably the game was finished,” Mancini added.
“After the sending off it was a different match.”
England international James Milner urged his teammates to put the Chelsea defeat behind them and focus on their next fixture against Arsenal.
“We are disappointed but now it is in the past,” Milner told Sky Sports.
“The positive side is that we have another game coming up.
“We will be back in tomorrow, working as hard as we can. If it was possible to give even more then we would.
“The hunger is still there. If anything, there is even more incentive to bounce back with an even bigger performance at the weekend.”
In other news, Arsene Wenger has insisted that Arsenal have money to spend in January. This is obviously great news to any Arsenal supporter.
The Gunners recent resurgence has brought them from 17th place all the way up to 5th in the Premier League table.
With a few new additions in January, the Gunners will surely fancy a top four finish to ensure Champions League qualification for 2012-13.
Once more, Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the club will spend if the right opportunity arises.
“We lose players like Chamakh and Gervinho to the African Cup of Nations, so hopefully touch wood we do not get any injuries to our strikers.
“But if an opportunity turns up in that department then we will buy.
“The situation, I must say, is a bit special. Economically the whole environment has changed and people suffer more. The clubs will suffer more financially and it’s much more difficult.
“Maybe we will have some opportunities because we are in a good financial situation.”
