Roberto Mancini wary of Manchester United threat

Roberto Mancini

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is fully aware of the threat posed by City’s bitter inner-city rivals Manchester United, who have seemingly made winning a habit under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Mancini is worried that the Red Devils’ mental strength and experience could possibly be the deciding factor when the two Manchester clubs take the pitch on Monday.

“For the last 20 years Manchester United have been winning constantly,” said Mancini.

“Even when they are coming from behind in the table, they know deep inside they can come back.

“They have this internal force born from all the success they have had.”

This “internal force” as Mancini suggests is a byproduct of years and years of English Premier League dominance.

In other words, United believe they can beat anyone, and rightfully so. On their day, the Red Devils could compete with any club in the world.

I can assure you that Sir Alex Ferguson will have the reigning champions ready to play on Monday. If suffering a 6-1 home defeat to your “noisy neighbours” doesn’t ring the alarm bells, I don’t know what does.

Now then, Mancini continued the mind games when he dubbed United better than City.

“Playing often against United has helped our progress and allowed us to learn. We’ve moved closer to them but they are still better than us.

“They have more experience and that team spirit that we are in the process of building here.”

One again, it’s hard to decipher Mancini’s intentions. After all, he’s a very cheeky character.

Nonetheless, the Italian also felt that it was relevant to mention that United have the easier title run-in. I would have to agree, especially since City must travel to the Sports Direct Arena to battle Newcastle Untied the week after the Manchester derby.

With that said, United must still face the likes of Swansea City and Sunderland.

Swansea gave the Red Devils a lot of problems at the Liberty Stadium in Wales, while Sunderland held United to one goal at Old Trafford.

At the moment, it’s hard to predict who’s going to win the Premier League title, but I would have to give a slight edge to Manchester United simply because they have been there and done that and also because they are currently in the drivers seat with a three point lead.

City fans will surely feel differently, as they should.

Will the English Premier League title be decided at the Etihad Stadium on Monday, April 30?
