(GSM) – Blackburn Rovers striker Jason Roberts admits he ‘could not believe’ that Sam Allardyce was sacked by the club’s board.
Roberts said that no one saw the sacking of the former Bolton Wanderers boss coming. And despite never getting along with his former manager, the 32-year-old forward insists he never wished to see Big Sam’s back.
Roberts told Sky Sports: “I just heard it now and couldn’t believe it. I don’t think anybody saw it coming.”
“I’m shocked and disappointed for the manager.”
Roberts believes Allardyce’s direct style of play may have been a factor in the manager’s dismissal, saying: “It is polarising the way we play. Some people are turned off by our tactics.”
And he said: “Even though we never got on, I would never have wished him to get the sack.”
The East Lancashire club’s new owners, the Venky’s Group, stated that Big Sam’s departure comes as part of their ‘wider plans and ambitions’ for the club.
