Birmingham City have announced the signing of left-back Paul Robinson on a one-month contract.

The 33-year-old has linked up with Birmingham on a short-term basis after recent injuries saw defenders Stephen Carr, Pablo Ibanez and David Murphy sidelined.

Robinson counts Watford, West Bromwich Albion and Bolton Wanderers as his former clubs while he also enjoyed a stint on loan at Leeds United last season.

“I’d like to thank the board for allowing me to bring in Paul, an experienced defender who will enhance our playing squad,” Birmingham manager Lee Clark told the club’s official website.

“While I have been impressed with the progress of our young defenders, recent injuries had left us with just two fit senior defenders so the acquisition of Paul was one we needed to make.

“As a senior professional, Paul will give us that added experience which is always useful in this competitive division.”

Clark was forced to apologise to the club’s fans after City suffered an embarrassing 5-0 home defeat against Barnsley on Saturday.

With just eight points from seven matches, Birmingham – who were relegated from the English Premier League in 2011 – sit 19th on the Championship table.
