Former England captain Bryan Robson has resigned from his post as manager of the Thailand national team.
Robson, 54, also captained Manchester United and is famous for keeping West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League in the 2004/05 season, despite the club sitting bottom at Christmas, and he is still the only manager to be able to claim that feat.
But he had nothing to shout out about regarding his stay in Thailand, as the team dropped 15 spots to 120th in the FIFA rankings while he was in charge and failed to qualify for the 2011 Asian Cup.
“Bryan wished to resign and his contract was terminated by mutual consent,” Worawi Makudi, head of Thailand’s Footabll Association said on Wednesday.
Robson had surgery for throat cancer in March, which is said to have led to his decision to walk away.
He initially signed a four-year deal with the association back in September 2009, when he replaced fellow Englishman Peter Reid.
