Rod Fanni set to join Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid are set to unveil Rod Fanni as their new signing after the player signed a three-year contract with Los Colchoneros.
Highly regarded as one of the best right-backs in France, Fanni turned down the offers from West Ham and Sunderland and yesterday afternoon agreed to a move to Vicente Calderon.
Rennes are thought to have accepted the offer of around 5 million euros, and the player has signed a three-year contract worth 1.4 million euros per season with Atletico.
Fanni made a name for himself at Rennes, where he established himself as one of the best defenders in the country, and during that time he regularly received call-ups into France squad but only featured four times for the national team, while mostly playing second fiddle to Bacary Sagna.
The Frenchman is a very versatile player, highly reliable at the back and very dangerous when going forward, and he seems to fit perfectly into the attacking style of play Atletico Madrid are famous for.

MLS chief drops Rafa Marquez hint
MLS commissioner Don Garber is hoping to see Rafael Marquez join Thierry Henry at New York Red Buls.
After seven very successful years at Camp Nou, Rafael Marquez is thought to be looking for a new challenge and he has been strongly linked with a move to New York Red Bulls.
Even the MLS commissioner Don Garber hopes the deal will go through.
“We hope to be able to have good news with Rafa, sometime in the near future, hopefully we will be able to present him to the public.
“(There is) no news yet, but if we can bring in Marquez, the captain of the Mexican national team, a guy who had a great World Cup, a long time Barcelona player, if we could have him in MLS, it would really give us a big boost of credibility and I think would be exciting for our fans.”
By bringing such high-profile players like David Beckham, Thierry Henry and Rafa Marquez, the MLS chiefs are hoping to attract even more foreign talent to America and popularize the competition, whereas the good showing of USA national team at the World Cup in South Africa could only aid this new image the MLS are slowly but successfully creating.

Koln sign Andrezinho on free transfer
Brazilian defender Andre Ricardo Soares has signed a two-year deal with Bundesliga outfit Koln.
Andrezinho arrives to Koln as a free agent, after spending three years at Vitoria Guimaraes.
The diminutive Brazilian can play on either side of defence and it was this versatility that helped him earn a chance to play in Bundesliga.
“It was crucial that he can play on the left and right defensive side,” said manager Michael Meier.
The player has already joined his new teammates and he is now preparing for the new season.
“I am just happy that now everything is settled and that I am here. I really wanted to join Koln. Now I will step on the gas and prepare as soon as possible. However, the League Cup at the weekend is too early.”
Andrezinho is something of an unknown quantity for Bundesliga fans, although he earned pretty good reviews for his performances in Portuguese Liga Sagres and will certainly increase competition for places in Zvonimir Soldo’s team.
